Liverpool’s zip and ruthlessness seemed to be restored in their dominant 3-0 away victory against Norwich City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side swept aside the Canaries courtesy of goals from Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Diogo Jota.

It was another strong momentum builder for The Reds who have won 10 of their last 12 Premier League matches in an impressive run which stretches back to the tail end of last season.

As well as the victory and the performance, Liverpool supporters were also further boosted by the long-awaited return of their talismanic defender Virgil Van Dijk.

The classy Dutchman had not featured for Klopp’s side in the Premier League, since suffering a serious knee injury in a collision with Everton ’s Jordan Pickford last October.

Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp also believes the 30-year-old defender will also be inspired by the performances of a rival last season.

“The fact that he had to watch from the side-lines last year as Ruben Dias stole the show as the best defender in the league – he’ll be motivated to show he is the best this season,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.

“He’s a majestic footballer and you don’t see that very often. He was probably watching everyone waxing lyrical about Ruben Dias and he wants that mantle as the best defender in the Premier League.

While Ruben Dias was taking the Premier League by storm with Manchester City, Liverpool were suffering a spectacular defensive crisis, where Joel Matip and Joe Gomez also suffered season ending injuries.

Van Dijk was also confined to the sidelines in Euro 2020, where he had to watch Holland be knocked out by the Czech Republic in the Round of 16 stage.

While Liverpool heavily suffered during Van Dijk’s prolonged absence from the football pitches, Redknapp believes his return was handled responsibly.

“I think it’s been timed perfectly, and he’s not been rushed in too much. For me, he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen,” said Redknapp.

“The assurance he gives everyone around him. It’s hard when you’ve been out for such a long time. I think it’s been timed perfectly, and he’s not been rushed in too much.”

Despite all of their challenges last season, Liverpool’s strong finish to the Premier League last season saw them finish in third position.

They have reinforced their defensive line with the signing of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.

The Frenchman arrived at Anfield for £36 million, and his performances in pre-season have already excited Reds’ fans.

However, Redknapp believes Van Dijk’s return has been vital, and that the Dutchman’s presence and influence gives Klopp’s side a much greater chance of winning the Premier League again.

“Having him back gives Liverpool a much better chance of winning the Premier League. He’s a remarkable player that gives everyone that calmness,” said Redknapp.
